Apollo completed in his first official CDE, Bromont Canada at Prelim level. He placed 6th (of 12) after dressage with a few driver errors. He went clean on obstacles, passing the vet checks and making optimum time. The course was slippery and we took the long route with him in the hazzards and unfortunately racked up many many time penalties, but finished with a happy horse. He had one of the fastest cones course times with two balls down. You can view the video highlights here:

We went to pick Apollo up yesterday from Casa Lusitana and were surprised to see him all dressed up for the occasion. Maciel was able to craft the wild and unruly Cob mane into some pretty snazzy braids. Here is a video from week 6. He's a bit tired, but he has been working very hard to please. We are THRILLED with his progress and can't thank Jorge and Maciel ( Bear too) enough for all the effort they put into this boy over the past few weeks. I'm sure we will be back for more! He was there for six weeks of training, in preparation for showing at first level this year.

10.1.08 Tunbridge HDT
Apollo competed in his second Horse Driving Trial, Tunbridge VT. He placed second overall in his training division and went clean on cross country. He had a GREAT time doing it too! This trial was held in support of the Hooved Animal Sancutary and hopes to be an annual event.

7.13.08 Waldingfield Horse Driving Trial
Apollo attended his first HDT ( training level) and was a good sport while his whip Elizabeth Francis got her game face on after a 20 year hiatus. After a decent score and minor spook during his dressage phase he gave the cones course a good effort despite his whip's error in negotiating a set of cones backwards. The whole crowed gasped in disappointment as his time was quite competitive. The cross country course was beautiful and Apollo happily went where he was pointed, coming in within optimum time and only one minor mishap at hazard two. (Typical case of" ignore-the-neavigatoritiis" )
