Quillane Welsh
The Quillane Stud was founded in 1986 by Cornelia Agnew and was established to develope sound, sane and dependable horses and ponies for sport. The plan was to use a Welsh Pony Section B stallion on thoroughbred and medium pony mares. The hills of Vermont would provide a good start for the youngsters who could spend their days roaming up and down the hills and fields.
The foundation stallion that was chosen was a 1970 Section B Welsh Pony called Tamarack Quill. Quill was a sturdy grey pony that stood about 13.3. He was by Tamarack Matthew who was by Cusop Sheriff and was out of Tamarack Lena by Severn Blue Boy. He had a strong background for performance and proved this with his thoroughbred crosses who were sold and competed successfully in Dressage, Pony Club and Eventing. Quill lived with his mares and foals and because of this management technique, the young stock all had a good healthy equine social order that would serve them well in their future
training.
The next stallion that became a part of the breeding program was a young very correct Welsh Cob called Coblynau Carmarthen ( Raffi ) He was put to the thoroughbreds and warm bloods to produced a larger Welshbred as we like to call them. These horses are competing successfully within the USEF, USDF and Pony Club.
In 2010 the Quillane prefix will be transfered to Elizabeth Francis and Amy E. Riley. It is hoped that with their two Welsh Cob Stallions Quillane Apollo and Gallod Auryn that there will be a continued flow of exceptional sound and talented Welsh Cobs and Welshbreds entering the competitive equine world of Driving, Dressage,Eventing and Pleasure.
